It’s no surprise at all that the overwhelming majority of successful anime has been sourced from like novels and manga series productions, and The Devil is a Part Timer is a perfect example of this kind of “pathway to success”.
What is a little different about The Devil is a Part Timer, though, is that the author of the original light novel series and the manga books that came afterwards continues to be so heavily involved in the anime itself.
Satoshi Wagahara is a self-proclaimed super fan of the The Devil is a Part Timer anime and has been trying to do absolutely everything he can in his own power to make sure that the second season of this unbelievably popular anime is launched just as quickly as humanly possible – without cutting any corners when it comes to quality or storytelling.
Unfortunately, as the author states himself pretty frequently, while he is doing everything he can to make sure that The Devil is a Part Timer is launched ASAP a lot of what goes on behind the scenes in making this anime come to life is completely and totally out of his control.
In fact, in the summer of 2017 – a couple of years after the first season of The Devil is a Part Timer launched – it was Wagahara that jumped on twitter and told fans of the anime that he wanted to see a second season released quickly but at the same time “anime is also a business” and that second season may not be released anywhere as quickly as people had hoped.
White Fox Studio, the studio that currently holds the rights for this anime production, have effectively shelved The Devil is a Part Timer and haven’t really released a lot of news regarding the future of this anime, either.
We haven’t seen anything on TV (or any new content for this anime world) since 2013 when it was first launched in April – but that doesn’t mean that fans have given up entirely.
Season 2 Rumors
While rumors regarding the second season of The Devil is a Part Timer are very, very difficult to come by – if only because it’s been more than six years since the anime was last broadcast in its initial run – that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some rumors out there at all.
The author behind the light novel source material, Satoshi Wagahara, continues to put out a number of like novels every six months or so now – with the series consisting of 24 individual volumes (the last released in the summer of 2019).
This means that there is a lot of source material that a second season of The Devil is a Part Timer could pull from, especially since the first season of this anime only covered about three volumes of the original material produced by the author.
On top of that, White Fox Studios have never shown themselves to be shy about “coloring outside the lines” when it comes to adding new characters, storylines, and materials to their anime productions that did not come from the sourcebooks, manga, or novels.
What We Know For Sure
What we know for sure, however, is that there isn’t a lot of hope that a second season of The Devil is a Part Timer is going to be coming down the line anytime soon – but that doesn’t mean that there is zero hope whatsoever.
White Fox Studio is unlikely to renew this series at this point in time, if only because it is an IP that they have left stagnate for a number of years. They just don’t show any real signs of interest in picking this story back up where it left off or picking it up in general, for that matter.
On the flip side of things, White Fox Studio does have a little bit of history spinning off series that they aren’t interested in working on anymore to other anime production companies. This may be a circumstance where they do the exact same thing, selling off the rights for The Devil is a Part Timer to someone else – or selling them back to the author – and allowing something new to be created from scratch by someone else.
It’s obvious that there is still quite a bit of interest for everything that the The Devil is a Part Timer stories have to offer. Even still today (more than six years after the first season was launched) people are still wondering when they are going to see The Devil is a Part Timer season two.
The fans are hungry for content and while the like novels and manga definitely help a little bit, nothing can quite come close to everything that the original anime and its wonderful cast brought to the table.
If we hear any good news whatsoever about the second season of The Devil is a Part Timer we’ll be sure to share it with you ASAP!
