The original manga for Seraph of the End was originally published all the way back in September 2012, and it wasn’t until April 2015 that Seraph of the End was turned into a full-blown anime television series.
The manga quickly established itself as a runaway bestseller, written by some of the most talented manga storytellers and illustrated by legendary artist Yamato Yamamoto. Three year gap between the original publication of the manga and the anime allowed the authors and artists to build up quite a bit of story content that could be used in the TV show – and the first series was considered a smash hit as soon as it launched in Japan.
A second season of Seraph of the End was released in the same year as the first season (2015), with fans just as excited and as happy about the second season as they were the first.
Unfortunately, Seraph of the End seems to have gone dormant since 2015 and things are still pretty much up in the air when it comes to whether or not there’s going to be a season three of this anime show.
Season 3 Rumors
Rumors surrounding the third season of Seraph of the End have been a little hit or miss ever since 2015, with fans believing that another season is going to be right around the corner and others not sure if there’s ever going to be a continuation of this incredibly popular series.
The trouble here is that while there was quite a bit of manga content for the anime producers to work with all the way back in 2015 they used up almost all of that content by publishing two seasons in the exact same year.
It definitely looks like the anime studio responsible for Seraph of the End has decided to hit the pause button on production to give the writers and artists on the manga time to kind of refill the storyline coffers, if you will.
This isn’t really all that unique and approach in the world of anime. In fact, it may be more of the norm the anything else. There are a lot of wildly successful anime series that sort of the pause button or a couple of years until new and interesting storylines can be concocted – and plenty of manga material released – before they dive right back into the fray.
Maybe that’s going to be the Seraph of the End experience.
What We Know For Sure
While rumors of the third season of Seraph of the End coming down the line have been swirling for a little while, they really started to pick up in 2016 – and have continued to heat up every year since.
The work on the third season of this anime show has not officially kicked off, but already three individual specials and an “Original Video Animation” one-off revolving around the Seraph of the End world – with everyone’s favorite characters returning – have already been released between 2016 and 2018
Another little detail that we know for sure is that both the Japanese voice acting team as well as the English voice acting team have already announced that they are eagerly excited about getting back to work on this project whenever the potential to do so arises.
It’s not at all uncommon for these kinds of voice acting teams to disperse in the long hiatus between anime runs, but it is a little bit uncommon for each and every one of the main and minor storyline voice actors to be so willing to drop everything and jump right back into the fray.
It’s definitely encouraging to know that the team (in both Japan and internationally) are excited about getting the “band back together” to make a third season work.
We also know for sure that the artists and authors working on the Seraph of the End manga continue to pump out volume after volume.
This is huge news, as it certainly shows that people are still interested in the characters and storylines in the Seraph of the End world and aren’t showing any signs of fatigue that might be the final nail in the coffin of a season of anime shows that haven’t yet materialized.
You can be sure that the money men and women behind the scene are paying close attention to the Seraph of the End manga sales and interest in this community to see if rolling out another season is a smart decision – or if they should shelve things altogether and just sort of move on to something else.
As always, we are going to continue to look for more information about everything having to do with a third season of Seraph of the End. If we hear anything substantial – or even any real whispers about what might be coming down the line in 2019, 2020, and 2021 – you can be sure that you will read about it right here before you see it anywhere else.
