How to Prevent Clogged Drains All Around Your House

How to Prevent Clogged Drains All Around Your House Pin It

:Preventing clogged drains around your home is not as difficult as some of you may think. Especially, when you compare the time, effort and money that is involved in hiring a professional plumber to make these repairs. In fact, one of the first things that you should do is arm you and your family members with the tips and recommendations provided below.

1. Don’t Allow Food or Grease to Fall Down into Your Sinks

If you want your sink to remain clog-free, you need to make sure that you do not allow your leftovers to drop down into the drain. For those of you who have garbage disposals, the food can be ground down into small enough particles. On the other hand, when a drain does not have a garbage disposal installed, you should use a drain strainer to keep the food out.

2. Do not Allow Grease from Your Foods to Go down your drain

When you want your kitchen drains to remain free from clogs, you and your family should be careful of how you are disposing of the grease from the foods that you eat. Because the build-up from the grease content is easy to cling to the insides of your kitchen pipes and forms large clogs, it is always best to dispose of these solid slimy oily contents into a container that you can throw away.

To make sure that the grease does not spill out or overflow onto the floor, you should use a sealed container to store before you place it in the trash can.

3. Get rid of any grease and Oil Remainings with Hot Water

Inevitably, at one point in time, some of the greases from the food will spoil over into the kitchen drains in error. So, you should do a little maintenance at least once a week to prevent grease build-up from forming.

For instance, to minimize the possibilities of a clogged kitchen sink, you should pour a hot kettle of steaming hot water down your kitchen drains to melt away any residue of the grease that has been left behind.

4. Use Drain Removers to Help Keep Drains in the kitchen and the Clog free

If you see that your sinks are beginning to drain water and other liquids slowly, you need to take care of these problems early on with an effective treatment that can help with preventing clogged drains.

According to Parker Plumbing, one of the best ways to resolve these types of problems before they become worse is to pour an effective drain remover down your sink. Many of these drain remover products are designed to dislodge clogs, while also melting blockages that form because of the added grease.

5. Be Selective With the Things You Place In Your Garbage Disposal

Even though your garbage disposals are meant for making the process of discarding foods easy to get rid of, there are still some specific rules and guidelines that you will need to follow. This is because some foods will not ground well at all. For instance, here are a few things that you should not put down your garbage disposals:

  • coffee grounds
  • potato skins
  • bananas
  • bones
  • celery
  • eggshells
  • pears or pear cores
  • apples
  • pasta

Each of these items is usually either too sticky or too thick to put down the drains without eventually causing the sink to be clogged. Therefore, you need to only put things that your garbage disposal will grind well and quickly.

6. Prevent Cloggs in Your Bathroom

Just like your family should pay close attention to preventing clogged drains in the kitchen, it is important that you also understand what to do to prevent clogs in your bathroom drains as well. For instance, the only paper product that the family should flush is toilet paper.

Also, to keep the drains in the bathrooms flowing freely, you should not allow hair, soap scum or other debris to clog your drains.

7. Take Advantage of All Natural Clog Removal Solutions

To help assist you with preventing clogs in different areas of your home, you must be free to use all-natural solutions as well. For instance, a mixture of vinegar and soda can help in cleaning home drains to prevent build up in pipes.
