Like a lot of other popular anime shows, DanMachi began life as a light novel series in Japan that later was turned into a full-blown manga – both of which were published in 2013.
Shortly after that, in 2015, the anime version of the DanMachi storyline was initially launched and in April.
The show was immediately a smashing success, garnering a tremendous amount of attention in Japan as well as internationally – becoming so popular that an English version was produced in record time to be launched internationally alongside a spinoff anime that featured many of the minor characters from the main storyline getting their own top billing.
To say that the world of DanMachi has grown by leaps and bounds in just the last five years or so would be the understatement of the century. Fans have gone crazy for all that DanMachi has to offer thanks to its complex, exciting, and drama/action-packed stories – but people are also going a little crazy because news about the second season of this show has been slowly dripping out.
Spent a lot of time digging through online rumors, forums, and news outlets to find out exactly what’s going on behind the scenes when it comes to the second season of the DanMachi anime.
Hopefully now you’ll have a much better idea of when everything is about to launch as well as exciting news about the possibilities for a season three!
Season 2 Rumors
According to the rumors that we’ve been able to gather up online, the storyline for the second season of DanMachi is going to begin immediately where we left off with our favorite characters at the end of season one.
This means that the labyrinth city of Orario is going to feature prominently again, as well as the Dungeon, and all of our favorite characters – including Bell – are going to be returning, too.
When we last saw Bell he and his friends were adventuring into the dungeon, had just waged war against the Minotaur, and were exploring new relationships as Bell fell in love with Ais over the course of the first series.
Unlike a lot of other popular initial runs of anime shows we were lucky enough to get 13 episodes in the first season of DanMachi, whereas most anime initial seasons only last a dozen episodes.
At the same time, we did go through five volumes of the first light novels and early manga content over these 13 episodes – which means there’s only about five other volumes of storyline content to work with if the creators of this anime want to stick closely to the storyline as it exists right now.
Of course, some of the rumors out there regarding DanMachi suggest that we are going to start veering off in some brand-new and exciting directions. The word out there is that season two is going to wrap up the rest of the light novel and manga content pretty early in the season and that the rest of season two – as well as season three and beyond – is going to contain content and storylines that are made up entirely by the writers of this anime.
Thankfully, the people behind the storyline so far are obviously huge fans of both the light novels and the manga itself. They have a real feel for the characters, have made them three-dimensional and exciting, and will probably be a great job going forward with original content as well!
What We Know For Sure
We know for sure that the second season of DanMachi is going to include the War Game storyline from the light novels and manga, and that definitely means that we are going to see the final rattles between the Soma Familia and our favorite characters.
We also know that some of the more popular characters from the DanMachi spinoff show are going to be introduced in the “main series”, though as of right now we aren’t quite sure of who is going to be making this crossover, how they are going to be making the crossover, or how long they are going to stay in the main series.
The most exciting news we have that is poured in concrete at this point in time is that the second series of DanMachi is set to launch in late 2019 or early 2020. There are still some things up in the air regarding the timing of the anime and the new manga series coming out – combined with the new DanMachi movie – but we are closer now than ever before to seeing the second season of this show finally go live.
On top of that, there’s already been news that the DanMachi series has been renewed for not only season three but for season four as well. That’s huge news for fans of the world that has been created in the DanMachi anime!
