Stress is obviously overwhelming. It has been known to take a toll on people. However, some of the Americans have derived ways of managing their stress with regular exercises. Besides, reading, listening to music, and other activities have made others beat their depression. These are effective stress relievers that calm both the mind and the body. It is advisable to pick a stress reliever depending on the circumstance.

Below are some of the effective stress relievers that can be done anywhere.

1. Guided imagery

Guided imagery is taking a short retreat in your brain. As the name suggests, it involves imagining yourself in a happy place, maybe the beach listening to the wave, and feeling the sand beneath you. Since it is guided, a person could be listening to a recording of a person guiding them to a peaceful scene.

Besides, it can be done personally, by closing your eyes and walking to a tranquil scene. This makes you feel like you are there. Open your eyes after a few minutes, to the present world.

Guided imagery is the best short tern stress reliever since it:

  • Can be done anywhere
  • It is free
  • Relieves stress immediately
  • Take little practice to know

2. Meditation

Meditation is a short-term stress reliever and is efficient in long term stress management. There are different forms of stress management, with each having unique appeals.

For meditation, you could create a mantra, easy to repeat in your mind, and take slow deep breaths. Besides, you could also practice a few minutes of mindfulness. This involves paying attention to what you hear, see, touch, and smell.

3. Progressive muscle relaxation

Progressive muscle relaxation is a difficult technique. Naturally, it involves relaxing all your body muscles one by one. Adequate practice is required for this procedure to be successful. Start by taking a few deep breaths.

Tighten and relax each body muscle starting with the forehead and every muscle to the toes. After some attempts, it is easier to differentiate between tension and tightness. Thus, making it easier to relax quickly. With every attempt, you ought to feel a wave of relaxation all over your body.

4. Breathing

Focusing on how you breathe or changing how your breath can make considerable differences in managing your stress level. Identifying breathing techniques is an adequate stress reliever. Besides calming your body, breathing can also calm your mind in a matter of minutes. It is a stress reliever that no one around you will even notice you doing. Wither in a stressful meeting, or a crowd, breathing can easily ease your stress.

However, there are different breathing exercises:

  1. You could breathe in with your nose. Watch your belly rise. Count to three as you inhale. Hold your breath for a second, and then exhale as you count to three.
  2. Inhale with your nose, and imagine the air is calm and peaceful. Let the air spread through your body. As you exhale, imagine the stress and tension you are exhaling.

6. Taking a walk

Exercise is a great stress reliever known to work in minutes. Walking give a person a change of scenery, thus a changed frame of mind. It is a simple and effective way to relieve stress.

Finding the best stress reliever needs a lot of practice and experimenting. However, it is always important to find a tool that will help you handle the ups and downs of life. Managing stress is beneficial to your well-being.
