Billy Jack Hawkins

WEBSTER COUNTY, KY - Mr. Billy Jack Hawkins, 85 of Providence, passed away on Tuesday, July 27 at his home.


He was born on Dec. 14, 1924 in St. Louis, Mo. To Carl and Cuba Hawkins. The family moved to Providence when Billy Jack was very young. He graduated from Providence High School and served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre on an aircraft carrier during WWII. Billy Jack worked most of his life as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Providence and the VFW. Billy Jack was very proud to be a Navy Veteran of WW II. He enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes, golfing and bowling but mostly being with his grandchildren.

He and Eleanor Lewis were married on Dec. 14, 1946 in Providence.

Survivors include his wife Eleanor of Providence. A daughter Melinda and husband Michael Overby of Providence. Two grandsons, Ryan and wife Hillary Overby of Morganfield and Kyle Overby of Providence. One great granddaughter Paige Ryan Overby of Morganfield.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30 at 2 PM at the Providence First Christian Church with Rev. Kim Hudson and Rev. Terry Rhye officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is on Thursday, July 29 from 5 to 8 pm at Jones & Erdman Funeral Home and on Friday from 11 AM to service time at the church.
