WEBSTER COUNTY, KY - A new animal clinic has officially opened in Providence.
Animal House Veterinary Clinic, located on West Main Street near Baptist Hill Rd., officially opened Monday, but co-owner Dr. Jon Holloman said the decision to open a new clinic is something he and his wife, Elizabeth (Cummins) Holloman had been thinking about since April.
"We looked around for a while, and found this to be the character of building that seemed to fit," he said, as Elizabeth Holloman quickly added that the building's concrete floors seemed more suitable for animals.
Holloman has worked in the area with other clinics, but said this seemed like the time to start his own business.
"There were no ill feelings," he said of previous business ventures. "I'm just here to start a business and make a living."
Right now, the new clinic offers treatment for animals of all sizes, including horses, cats, and dogs, and also makes "farm calls." The couple said over time, they hope to add more features to the clinic, such as a hospitalization area and special programs for people with animals.
One example, Elizabeth Holloman said, involved the idea for "birthday parties" in which people could donate items such as food and litter that would be distributed to people in danger of losing their pets because of the situation with the economy. She said the clinic has been working with Webster County Dog Warden John Dunn, and hopes the dog pound will be a place that can distribute the materials on an as-needed basis.
Dr. Holloman said he also intends to post information about various Kentucky Veternarian Medical Association (KVMA).
The couple's children - Jordan Glover, Heath Holloman, and Houston Holloman - also help run the clinic by doing everything from simple chores to assisting with caring for animals.
A grand opening is planned for later this year, although a date hasn't been set.
